Action for Children Volunteers
Action for Children is a national charity that helps the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK break down the barriers of injustice, deprivation and inequality, so they can achieve their full potential.
Locally, Action For Children deliver the South Worcestershire Project which plays an important role in supporting families with children aged 0-19. The service not only offers support, advice and guidance to families, but works with them to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Current opportunities for volunteers include:
Community Group Volunteer - Volunteers are supported by paid Action for Children staff to set up and run groups for children and families from Action for Children centres. The type of group may vary but often take the form of Stay and Play activities or support groups for parents and families. Volunteers are given the opportunity to take full ownership of their groups and they may do this alongside a small group of one of more other volunteers.
Parents 1st Volunteer - Volunteers attend a 10 week Parents First Training course alongside the Action for Children recruitment and training process which all volunteers complete. They will co-deliver a range of parenting groups alongside Parenting Practitioners in various venues across Worcestershire.
They will be able to share their own experience and knowledge in addition to developing new skills.
Breastfeeding Support Volunteer - Volunteers have the opportunity to share their own knowledge and experience of breastfeeding to breastfeeding mums. Volunteering alongside paid breastfeeding support workers to support individuals attending support groups based in different locations (e.g. Saffron Centre and the HIVE). Share accurate breastfeeding support network information.
Admin Support Volunteer - Volunteer administrators support Business support Officers based in Children's centres. Variety of tasks including cover for reception and telephones, answering queries from visitors to the children's centre, filing, data inputting etc. Good opportunity to gain experience of working in an office environment and supporting services for children and families
