Malvern Cube Memories
Thanks for the Memories!
Malvern Youth and Community Trust’s re-launch of the former youth centre with new name and signage has meant that many members of the community have dropped in to have a chat with the Malvern Cube’s Manager, Jon White, to find out what’s going on, share their memories and volunteer their time.
Bill Pritchard, was one of these – Bill was present at the opening of the original youth centre, nearly fifty years ago. Bill still works in Malvern as a theatre technician – and his son now rents out the rehearsal space in the Malvern Cube. How many of you remember Bob Walker, who ran the youth centre when it opened?
Bill said, “I remember him playing the guitar and leading a folk singing group. Also, I remember the ‘holiday with a difference’ organised by the youth centre. We went with children from the hospice that used to be based at Link Top”. Bill reckons he was one of the first DJ’s at the many discos held at the centre over the years and recalls well-known bands featuring, such as Jethro Tull and Hawkwind.
No doubt many of you will have your own memories of the youth centre and next year, in May 2013, we will celebrate our fifty years’ anniversary. Not only are we looking for ways to celebrate, and we would love to hear your ideas to make the celebration a special event but we’d like your recollections and photographs too. The Malvern Cube is not just about a building or facilities – we hope everyone will grab the chance to make this community space your own, to join us in shaping it for the future. Your thoughts, ideas, or memories can be sent to us via www.malverncube.com or shared on our Facebook page .
