Malvern Theatre Players presents Street Child
30 November -1
Sat Matinee: 2:30pm
Theatre House, Grange Road, Malvern WR14 3HA
Jim is sent to the workhouse, but after a short time decides that life on the streets is not as bad as the treatment he gets from the adults in charge there. He finds some friends, but is also cruelly treated and exploited by a variety of uncaring adults, until he finally meets up with Doctor Barnardo who is setting up a school for the city’s “ragged children”.
The play highlights the dreadful conditions in which many of the poor lived during the Victorian age while their rich contemporaries were enjoying life to the full.
Both the book and the play have been wideley praised as bringing the injustices of the era to life in an entertaining but deeply moving way.
