Suckley Quarter Marathon 2024

19 May 2024

A local running event returns for a second year on Sunday 19th May. The Suckley Quarter was started by the Griffiths sisters, who were born and raised in the area, and who wanted to give something back to their local community.

Last year’s event sold out within two weeks, and beautiful spring sunshine on the day, together with an enjoyable and friendly crowd, meant the day went brilliantly well. Following a route that is exactly one-quarter the length of a marathon, runners follow a 6.5 mile route on a variety of terrain that includes some less well-known trails, roads, tracks and footpaths around the picturesque village of Suckley, through Longley Green.

As well as an adult event, there’s also a children’s race which is 2 kilometres long, taking place in enclosed fields along undulating trails. Its suitable for children aged 4 to 16 years old and the organisers strongly suggest any entrants under 8 years old are accompanied by an adults. All the finishers to both races will receive a medal and there are trophies for the first, second and third male and female finishers.

The day is centred on the Hop Shed Brewery where the races start and finish, and where refreshments are available for competitors and spectators alike. Entry fees for the event, together with the proceeds of a raffle, will be donated to local good causes.

Spaces for adult runners have already sold out for this year, but there is a waiting list for those who might still like the chance to take part. For younger runners, the organisers are hopeful that spaces should still be available in the SQM Kids Fun Run. Entry for the adult race is £14.50 and for the kids fun run its £4.50.

The event welcomes volunteers to help marshal the course, as well as any business sponsors. To find out more, search for Suckley Quarter Marathon on Facebook
