Brand new for 2026, the National Year of Reading, Strange Futures are so excited to present it latest show, THE BOY WHO READ ALOUD TO THE SEA.

Adapted from the short story, The Boy Who Read Aloud, by Joan Aiken, and winner of the Tall Stories Directors Award, the story follows the journey of Seb, a boy who loves to read aloud but no one ever seems to listen, especially not his family.

One day, he spots a notice pinned to the village board: 'Elderly Blind Retired Sea would like boy to read aloud daily.' Taking it at face value (the original notice actually read Elderly Blind Retired Sea Captain would like boy to read aloud daily, but the notice was worn and torn, Seb packs his books and sets off on an adventure to read to the Sea itself!
